Sarah Davies

Author of Big Stories For Little Historians

Sarah Davies is a secondary school History teacher and runs the History department at Charles Darwin School in Bromley. Sarah achieved a BA Honours degree in history from the University of Kent and has Qualified Teacher Status and is CRB checked. Sarah also has the role of assistant principal examiner for GCSE History and works as a subject specialist for Pearsons. Sarah has over a decade of teaching History; she has always had a knack of making the most complicated events in history fun and engaging. Her enthusiasm has inspired even the most reluctant teenage historian.

It was not until she had a family of her own that she realised that it wasn’t just teenagers who could be captivated by historical stories, the youngest of children could too. It was also the time she noticed there were not any books that offered a simplified version of, not only the key moments in history but also those deemed to be more obscure. Sarah is an avid believer that History should be bought to life and is a topic that could be the basis of many pieces of work that coincide with other subjects at Ks1 and Ks2. Sarah decided to write a history series of books for younger children aged 5-11. They are now published by Tarquin and are called Big Stories for Little Historians. The Little Historians series is designed to bring the Story into History, by rendering key historical events into the style and format that new readers are used to – highly illustrated, strong on narrative and with a larger than lifestyle. The stories can be read to children or be part of reading development. Sarah and the illustrator Chris Ruth hope the result is new little Historians. Her range of books is a great way of children and their grown-up learning together. This series crosses boundaries, sparks conversations, feeds their curiosity and helps them to make their own judgements and inferences. If you’re looking for a list of facts, you won’t find it here. Big Stories for Little Historians is full of insightful historical content told in easy-to-follow stories.
